(a) 3x - 10 = 35

Solution:

3x - 10 - 35.

or 3x - 10 + 10 = 35 + 10

or 3x = 45 or x = [latex]\frac {45}{3}[/latex] = 15.

(b) 5s = 3s

Solution:

5s = 3s. So, 5s - 2s = 0.

(c) 3u - 7 = 2u + 3

Solution:

3u - 7 = 2u + 3

or 3u - 2u = 3 + 7 or u = 10.

(d) 4 (m + 6) - 8 = 2m - 4

Solution:

4 (m + 6) - 8 = 2m - 4

or 4m + 24 - 8 = 2m - 4

or 4m — 2m = - 4 - 24 + 8

or 2m = - 20 i.e., m = [latex]\frac {-20}{2}[/latex] = -10.

(e) [latex]\frac {u}{15}[/latex] = 6

Solution:

[latex]\frac {u}{15}[/latex] = 6 or u = 6 × 15 = 90.
