Solution:

Data arranged in ascending order :

32, 35, 36, 37, 38, 38, 38, 40, 42, 43, 43, 43, 45, 47, 50 [latex]\left(\frac{15+1}{2}\right)[/latex] i. e., 8th observation is 40.

So, median is 40.

Question 2.

Find the mean of the data 4,6, 7,5, 3, 5, 4, 5, 2, 6, 2, 5, 1, 9, 6, 5.

Solution:

Data arranged in increasing order is :

1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9 .

Median = [latex]\frac{20 \text { th }}{2}[/latex], i.e., [latex]\frac{10 \text { th term }+11 \text { th term }}{2}[/latex]

= [latex]\frac{5+5}{2}[/latex] = 5.
