Question 1.

The figure shows the diagram for a window with a grill. What is the gap between two rods in the grill? Class 7

Solution:

Let gap between the two roads be x cm.

Now, total height 34 cm

Width of two wooden strips (top + bottom)

= 3 cm + 3 cm = 6 cm

Width of the 3 rods = 3 × 2 = 6 cm

There are two gaps between 3 consecutive rods

So, 2x + 6 + 6 = 34 or 2x = 34 - 12 = 22 22

or x = [latex]\frac {22}{2}[/latex] = 11 cm.

So, gap between two rods is 11 cm.

Note : Figure given in the textbook is not clear.

Question 2.

In a restaurant, a fruit juice costs ₹ 15 less than a chocolate milkshake. If 4 fruit juices and 7 chocolate milkshakes cost ₹ 600, find the cost of the fruit juice and milkshake. Class 7

Solution:

Let cost of the fruit juice be x.

Then, cost of a chocolate milkshake = ₹ (x + 15).

So, 4 x ₹ x + ₹ 7(x + 15) = ₹ 600.

or 4x + 7x + 105 = 600

or 11x = 600 - 105 = 495.

or x = [latex]\frac {495}{11}[/latex]= 45.

Hence, cost of a fruit juice is ₹ 45 and that of chocolate miskshake = ₹ 45 + 15 = ₹ 60.
