Working with Fractions Class 7 Short Question Answer

Working with Fractions Class 7 Short Question Answer

Question 1.

Weight of a cake is 4 kg. It is cut into equal pieces each weighing [latex]\frac {2}{3}[/latex] kg. Find the number of pieces cut.

Solution:

Number of pieces = 4 ÷ [latex]\frac {2}{3}[/latex]

= 4 × [latex]\frac {3}{2}[/latex] = 6.

Question 2.

Find the product of [latex]\frac {9}{25}[/latex] and the reciprocal of [latex]\frac {16}{15}[/latex].

Solution:

Reciprocal of [latex]\frac {16}{15}[/latex] = [latex]\frac {15}{16}[/latex].

So, required product = [latex]\frac {9}{25}[/latex] × [latex]\frac {15}{16}[/latex] = [latex]\frac {27}{80}[/latex]

Question 3.

The cloth required to make one shirt is 2[latex]\frac {1}{3}[/latex] m. How many shirts can be made from a piece of cloth 9[latex]\frac {1}{3}[/latex] m long.

Solution:

Number of shirts = 9[latex]\frac {1}{3}[/latex] ÷ 2[latex]\frac {1}{3}[/latex]

= [latex]\frac {28}{3}[/latex] ÷ [latex]\frac {7}{3}[/latex]

= [latex]\frac {28}{3}[/latex] × [latex]\frac {3}{7}[/latex] = 4.

Question 4.

For making a pillow, 1[latex]\frac {1}{4}[/latex] kg cotton wool is required. How many pillows can be made from 6[latex]\frac {1}{4}[/latex] kg cotton wool?

Solution:

Number of pillows = 6[latex]\frac {1}{4}[/latex] ÷ 1[latex]\frac {1}{4}[/latex]

= [latex]\frac {25}{4}[/latex] ÷ [latex]\frac {5}{4}[/latex]

= [latex]\frac {25}{4}[/latex] × [latex]\frac {4}{5}[/latex]

= 5 pillows

Question 5.

Weight of an object on moon is [latex]\frac {1}{6}[/latex] of its weight on the earth. If an object weighs 6[latex]\frac {3}{5}[/latex] kg on the earth, then what will be its

weight on the moon?

Solution:

Weight on the moon = [latex]\frac {1}{6}[/latex] of 6[latex]\frac {3}{5}[/latex] kg

= [latex]\frac {1}{6}[/latex] × [latex]\frac {33}{5}[/latex] kg

= [latex]\frac {11}{10}[/latex] kg = 1[latex]\frac {1}{10}[/latex] kg
