How do we measure historical time?

Historical time is measured using timelines. Years are counted forward from the birth of Jesus Christ. Year 2024 means Jesus Christ was born 2024 years ago. It is written as 2024 AD. Before the birth, years are counted backward and used to be marked with BC (Before Christ) or BCE. For example, the end of the last ice age is 12000 BCE.
