Before the birth, years are counted backward and used to be marked with BC (Before Christ) or BCE. For example, end of last ice age is 12000 BCE.

Early humans lived in bands or group. They required shelter and food. For the food, they collected edible plants and fruits and relied on hunting. They were mainly hunters and gatherers. For shelter, these groups lived in temporary camps, rock shelters or caves. They learnt to use fire, cultivation and domestication of animals. This led them to settle down near rivers.
