Algebra Play Class 8 Short Question Answer
Question 1.
One-fifth of a number minus 4 gives 3. Find the number.
Solution:
Let the number be x.
So, [latex]\frac{1}{5}[/latex]x - 4 = 3.
⇒ [latex]\frac{1}{5}[/latex]x = 3 + 4 = 7.
So, x = 7 × 5 = 35.
Question 2.
Sachin scored twice as many runs as Rahul. Sum of their runs are two less than 200. How many runs did each one score ?
Solution:
Let number of runs scored by Rahul be x.
So, runs scored by Sachin = 2x.
Now, x + 2x = 200 - 2.
⇒ 3x = 198 ⇒ x = [latex]\frac{198}{3}[/latex] = 66.
So, runs scored by Rahul = 66 and runs scored by Sachin = 2 × 66 = 132.
Question 3.
Laxmi’s father is 49 year old. He is 4 years older than three times of Laxmi’s age. Find Laxmi’s age.
Solution:
Let Laxmi’s age = x years.
So, her father’s age = (3x + 4) years.
Hence, 3x + 4 = 49
or 3x = 49 - 4 = 45
or x = [latex]\frac{45}{3}[/latex] = 15.
Thus, Laxmi’s age = 15 years.
Question 4.
In a garden, some of trees were fruit trees. The number of non-fruit trees in the garden were two more than three times the number of fruit trees. If the number of non-fruit trees were 77, then what was the number of fruit trees ?
Solution:
Let number of fruit trees be x.
So, 3x + 2 = 77
or 3x = 77 - 2 = 75
or x = [latex]\frac{75}{3}[/latex] = 25.
So, number of fruit trees = 25.
Question 5.
Munna subtracts thrice the number of his notebook from 50. He finds the result to be 8. Find the number of Munna’s notebooks.
Solution:
Let number of Munna’s notebooks be x.
So, 50 - 3x = 8
or 50 - 8 = 3x
or 42 = 3x
or x = [latex]\frac{2}{3}[/latex] = 14.
Thus, Munna has 14 notebooks.
