Finding Common Ground Class 7 Long Question Answer

Finding Common Ground Class 7 Long Question Answer

Question 1.

Three boys step off together from the same spot. Their steps measure 63 cm, 70 cm and 77 cm respectively. What is the minimum distance each should cover so that all can cover the distance in complete steps?

Solution:

Three boys step off together after those distance intervals which are common multiples of 63 cm, 70 cm and 77 cm.

So, we first find the LCM of 63, 70 and 77.

∴ LCM = 7 × 9 × 10 × 11 = 6930.

∴ The minimum distance each should cover so that all can cover the distance in complete steps = 6930 cm - 69.30 m

Question 2.

Three tankers contain 403 litres, 434 litres and 465 litres of diesel respectively. Find the maximum capacity of a container that can measure the diesel of the three containers exact number of times.

Solution:

Clearly, the maximum capacity of the container is the HCF of 403, 434 and 465 in litres.

We have :

∴ 403 = 13 × 31, 434 = 2 × 7 × 31

and 465 = 3 × 5 × 31

∴ HCF of 403, 434 and 465 = 31.

Hence, the capacity of the container = 31 litres
