Question 1.

Three shops sell the same items at the same price. The shops offer deals as follows: Class 8

Shop A : “Buy 1 and get 1 free”

Shop B : “Buy 2 and get 1 free”

Shop C : “Buy 3 and get 1 free”

Answer the following :

(i) If the price of one item is ? 100, what is the effective price per item in each shop? Arrange the shops from cheapest to costliest.

(ii) For each shop, calculate the percentage discount on the items.

[Hint : Compare the free items to the total items you receive.]

(iii) Suppose you need 4 items. Which shop would you choose? Why?

Solution:

(i) Shop A : Two items is ₹ 100.

So, price of one item = ₹ [latex]\frac{100}{2}[/latex] = ₹ 50.

Shop B : Three items is ₹ 200.

So, price of one item = ₹ [latex]\frac{200}{3}[/latex] = ₹ 66[latex]\frac{2}{3}[/latex].

Shop C : Four items is ₹ 300.

So, price of one item = ₹ [latex]\frac{300}{4}[/latex] = ₹ 75.

Cheapest to costlier : Shop A, Shop B, Shop C.

(ii) Shop A: Discount % = [latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex] × 100% = 50%.

Shop is : Discount % = [latex]\frac{1}{3}[/latex] × 100% = 33[latex]\frac{1}{3}[/latex]%.

Shop C : Discount % = [latex]\frac{1}{4}[/latex] × 100% = 25%.

(iii) I will choose Shop A. Because, this shop is giving highei discount.
