In a room of 100 people, 99% are left-handed. How many left-handed people have to leave the room to bring that percentage down to 98%? Class 8

Solution:

Original number of left-handed people

= 99% of 100 = [latex]\frac{99}{100}[/latex] × 100 = 99.

Let the required number be x.

Then, remaining people = (100 - x) and left-handed people = 99 - x. So, as per required condition,

[latex]\frac{(99-x)}{100-x}[/latex] × 100 = 98

or 9900 - 100x = 9800 - 98x

or 9900 - 9800 = (100 - 98) x

or 100 = 2x

x = 50.
