Question 2.

Draw a pie chart of the data given below:

The time spent by a child during a day:

Sleep — 8 hours

School — 6hours

Home work — 4 hours

Play — 4 hours

Others — 2 hours

Solution:

Let us represent this data in the form of a pie chart. The total angle at the centre is 360°. The central angle of the sectors will be a fraction of 360. We make a table to find the central angle of the sectors.

Time spent on In hoursIn fractionsFraction of 360°
Sleep8[latex]\frac{8}{24}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{1}{3}[/latex][latex]\frac{1}{3}[/latex] of 360° = 120°
School6[latex]\frac{6}{24}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{1}{4}[/latex][latex]\frac{1}{4}[/latex] of 360° = 90°
Home work4[latex]\frac{4}{24}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{1}{6}[/latex][latex]\frac{1}{6}[/latex] of 360° = 60°
Play4[latex]\frac{4}{24}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{1}{6}[/latex][latex]\frac{1}{6}[/latex] of 360° = 60°
Others2[latex]\frac{2}{24}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{1}{12}[/latex][latex]\frac{1}{12}[/latex] of 360° = 30°

We make the pie chart as shown below :
