(i) 20% of ₹ 180 = ₹[latex]\frac{20}{100}[/latex] × 180 = ₹ 36.

Since ₹ 50 > ₹ 36, so second option is better.

(ii) 20% of ₹ 225 = ₹ [latex]\frac{20}{100}[/latex] × ₹ 225

= [latex]\frac{20}{100}[/latex] × 225 = ₹ 45.

Here also, ₹ 50 > ₹ 45. So, second option is better.

(iii) 20% of ₹ 300 = ₹ [latex]\frac{20}{100}[/latex] × 300 = ₹ 60.

₹ 60 > ₹ 50. So first option is better.

Ariba and Arun have some marbles. Ariba says, “The number of marbles with me is 120% of the marbles Arun has”. What would be an appropriate statement Arun could make comparing the number of marbles he has with Ariba’s? Class 8

Solution:

Let Arun has 100 marbles.

So, Ariba has 120 marbles.

Arun has (120 - 100) = 20 less marbles.

Percentage on 120 is [latex]\frac{20}{120}[/latex] × 100% = [latex]\frac{50}{3}[/latex]%.

Thus, Arun should say that he has [latex]\frac{50}{3}[/latex]%,

i.e., 16[latex]\frac{2}{3}[/latex]% less marbles than Ariba.
