(a) what scale or key has been used to draw the pictograph ?
(b) How many symbols A will be used to depict 12 fruits?
Solution:
Sol. (a) Scale or key is 1 ∆ = [latex]\frac{20}{5}[/latex] = 4 fruits.
(b) 12 fruits will be depicted by [latex]\frac{12}{4}[/latex] = 3 symbols ∆, i.e., by ∆∆∆.
Questions 2.
In a bar graph, if marks 80 obtained by a student in Hindi are depicted by a length of 8 units, then what scale or key has been used to draw the bar graph ? Marks 60 obtained by the same student in English shall be depicted by how much length ?
Solution:
Scale or key is 1 unit length = [latex]\frac{80}{8}[/latex] = 10 marks. Marks 60 in English will be depicted by [latex]\frac{60}{10}[/latex] = 6 units.
Questions 3.
In a pictograph, 56 books sold on a shop have been depicted by a single symbol □. If books sold on Monday and Thursday have been depicted respectively by 3 and 5 symbols □, then what is the difference between the numbers of books sold on that shop on these two days ?
Solution:
Difference of symbols □ for the books sold on Monday and Thursday = 5 - 3 = 2. So, difference of the number of books sold = 2 × 5 = 10 books.

Find the difference between the largest and least shoe sizes of the students of a class given below :
4, 4, 4, 3, 3, 3, 3, 7, 6, 6, 6, 6, 4, 5, 3, 6, 5.
Solution:
Largest size = 7, least size = 3.
So, required difference = 7 - 3 = 4.
Questions 5.
In a bar graph, a scale of 1 unit length = 200 bicycles was used to draw the bar graph. If the number of bicycles produced in the years 2010 and 2011 were depicted by 3 and 5 unit lengths respectively, then what is the sum of the bicycles produced in the two years?
Solution:
Sum of the unit lengths in 2010 and 2011 = 3 + 5 = 8 unit lengths.
So, sum of the bicycles sold = 8 × 200 = 1600.
