Solution:

Let ABC be a given triangle and let AD is its altitude corresponding to side BC.

Draw a line-segment PQ = Side BC of the triangle.

At P, draw a perpendicular XP and cut a line-segment PR = [latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex]AD.

Now, draw a perpendicular at Q to PQ and at R to PR to intersect at S.

Then, PQSR is the required rectangle equal in area to given ∆ABC.
