The price of 1 kg of rice was ₹ 38 in 2024. It is ₹ 42 in 2025. What is the rate of inflation? Class 8

Question 1.

The price of 1 kg of rice was ₹ 38 in 2024. It is ₹ 42 in 2025. What is the rate of inflation? (Inflation is the percentage increase in prices.) Class 8

Solution:

Increase in price = ₹ 42 - ₹ 38 = ₹ 4.

So, inflation = [latex]\frac{4}{42}[/latex] × 100%

= [latex]\frac{200}{21}[/latex] ×% = 9!!%.

Question 2.

A number increased by 20% becomes 90. What is the number? Class 8

Solution:

Let the number be x.

After 20% increase, it will be [latex]\frac{120x}{100}[/latex]

So, [latex]\frac{120x}{100}[/latex] = 90

or x = [latex]\frac{90 \times 100}{120}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{3}{4}[/latex] × 100 = 75.
