A shopkeeper initially set the price of a product with a 35% profit margin. Due to poor sales, he decided to offer a 30% discount on the selling price. Will he make a profit or a loss? Give reasons for your answer. Class 8

Solution:

Let C.P. be ₹ 100.

So, set price at 35% profit = ₹ 135

S.P. at 30% discount = ₹[latex]\frac{70}{100}[/latex] × 135 = ₹ 94.50

So, he will suffer a loss of

(100 - 94.50)% = 5.5%

What percentage of area is occupied by the region marked ‘E' in the figure? Class 8

Solution:

See figure and produce line-segment between A and D as shown. Also, draw line- segments as shown :

Clearly, E = [latex]\frac{1}{8}[/latex] of the whole region

= [latex]\frac{1}{8}[/latex] × 100% of the whole region

= 12[latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex]%.
