Activity 8.9: Let us make a model

1. Take two earthen pots of diffrent sizes.
2. Fill the bottom of the larger pot with a layer of sand.
3. Place the smaller pot into the centre of the larger one as shown in Fig..

1. Fill the gap between the pots with more sand.
2. Pour water in the sand area.
3. Place a lid or wet jute sack to cover the top of the smaller pot.
4. You can also make a drawing of the pot-in-pot cooler once it is ready.

Answer:

The surface of the earthen pots have many pores. Water seeps through the surface of the earthen pot and evaporates, which imparts cooling effect.
