Reshma bought three identical metal bars from the market. Class 6
Question 1.
Reshma bought three identical metal bars from the market. Out of these bars, two were magnets and one was just a piece of iron. How will she identify which two amongst the three could be magnets (without using any other material) ? Class 6
Answer:
Reshma can identify by the activity of magnetic attraction.
- Take one of the bars and bring it close to each of the other two bars, one at a time.
- If the first bar is a magnet, it will attract the second bar (which could also be a magnet) or repel it depending on the orientation of the poles.
- If the first bar is not a magnet (it’s the piece of iron) it will not attract or repel the second bar.
It shows that iron is not a magnetic material.
Question 2.
You are given a magnet which does not have the poles marked. How can you find its poles with the help of another magnet which has its poles marked ? Class 6
Answer:

When we bring marked magnet (A) towards the unmarked magnet (B), these conclusions can be drawn :
- If the North pole of (A) bring towards (B) and magnets repel each other, then it would be North pole of that magnet and other would be South pole.
- If the South pole of (A) bring towards (B) and magnets attract each other, then it would be North pole of that magnet and other would be South pole.
