What should be the length of the straight tube if it is to have the same area as the bent tube on the left? It is 5 + 5 = 10.

Solution:

Length of the straight tube

= Sum of the lengths of the bent tube]

= (5 + 5 + 10 + 10 + 15 + 15 + 20 + 20 + 20)m

= 120 m

Width of the tube = 1 m

So, area of the spiral tube

= 120 × 1 = 12 sq.m
